Individual Lessons

ABRSM is the exam board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Individual music lessons are available to girls from Form I onwards with the majority of girls learning at least one instrument. A wide range of instruments are taught, including most orchestral instruments, guitar, piano, and voice, as well as lessons in music theory. Over 170 music lessons are taught each week, taking place during the school day on a rotational basis to minimise the impact on other subjects. We have an experienced and highly qualified team of visiting music teachers who inspire and teach our girls. All are DBS checked and trained in Child Protection. Lessons take place in five new, purpose-built teaching rooms in the music department.

We strive to instil an understanding of the importance of commitment and perseverance within all music pupils; that progress requires dedication and daily practise. Please consider the choice of instrument carefully and discuss expectations with your daughter before committing to lessons.

Instruments currently offered include: bassoon, cello, clarinet, flute, guitar, piano, recorder, saxophone, singing, trumpet, viola and violin.

A large number of QCPS pupils choose to take formal music examinations with the ABRSM and Trinity/Guildhall examination boards. We are very proud of a 100% pass rate and many girls who achieve Merits and Distinctions.
